Somerville is fascinated by little-known narratives of legendary women. She lives in Toronto and has taught literature for 25 years. She served on the Pen Canada Board and chaired its Board as well as many benefits that featured writers including Diana Athill, Margaret Atwood, Roddy Doyle, Stephen King, Azar Nafisi, and Ian Rankin.
Her book about the pioneering war correspondent Martha Gelhorn, “Yours, for Probably Always was a Book” was named by Quill & Quire as one of the best books in 2019.
